How to Season a Cast Iron Skillet

These days, it seems like every skillet or wok you purchase comes with 'non-stick' coating; but do you ever wonder how people managed before the invention of Teflon? Did food just stick to everything?

The answer, quite obviously, is no. Before Teflon there was cast iron, and in many ways a well-seasoned cast iron skillet is better than any non-stick alternative. Not only does seasoned cast iron give excellent flavor to food, it is completely organic, chemical free and lasts a lifetime. (Try saying that about your scratched and peeling non-stick cookware!) If you've chosen to make the switch to cast iron, here's everything you need to know about purchasing and seasoning your new skillet:

First things first, you need to find a well-constructed cast iron skillet. This skillet could potentially last a century and be passed down through generations of your family. so you should consider it an investment in the future. Here's one of our personal favorites:

Emerilware Cast Iron 12" Skillet -$24.85
  • 12" cast iron made for high heating cooking
  • Excellent heat retention - keeps food warm at table
  • Perfect for browning, searing, frying, and sauteing
  • Heats evenly and consistently
  • No warping or chipping
  • Becomes virtually non-stick with seasoning and use
  • Pre-seasoned pan surfaces and oven safe up to 600F
  • Heirloom quality with signature thumb rest
  • Large, extra-long handle and easy-to-grip side "helper" handles
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Overall Dimensions: 3" H x 12" D
Now comes the fun part! Seasoning is done for three main reasons: to "seal" the skillet to prevent rust, to create a natural non-stick surface for frying or baking, and to improve the taste of food. All you will need to season your new skillet is lard and an oven. Lard can be purchased at any grocery store for a dollar or two, and the remainder can be put towards an excellent pie crust!

1. Make sure that you wash your new sillet in soap and water thoroughly before seasoning (this will be the last time your skillet ever touches dish detergent!).

2. Let the skillet dry completely on a countertop or kitchen island then take a 1/4 cup of lard (for 10" or 12" skillet) and use it to coat the entire surface area of the skillet EXCEPT the very bottom where the skillet touches the stovetop or oven rack.

3. Place the skillet in a 250 degree oven (this may be difficult in small convection ovens). After 15 minutes, remove the skillet and pour out any excess lard, then return the skillet to the oven and continue baking for 2 hours.

4. When the skillet is cool enough to touch, take a paper towel and wipe off the excess lard again, leaving a thin coating (the skillet will appear shiny). Let it cool for another two hours and then wipe it down again. You're done!

Ideally you should repeat this process another three to four times before the skillet is considered properly seasoned. One way to speed the process is to use the new skillet to cook greasy foods, like bacon.

Most importantly, DO NOT clean your cast iron pan with soap and water! After you're done frying or baking, simply rinse the pan in hot water and scrape off any excess food if necessary then let dry. Never use a sponge or scouring pad! This will undo all of the hard work you've put into seasoning. You should also never leave food in the skillet for long periods of time, or the chemicals in the food will break down the natural non-stick surface and expose the skillet to rust. Finally, store your cast iron pan without a lid to prevent moisture from building up and causing rust.

And there you have it! Your first seasoned cast iron pan. Just think of all the amazing meals it will help you prepare throughout the coming decades!

Where to find Retro Styles

Whether you still dream of living alongside Rhoda on the set of The Mary Tyler Moore Show or you cringe when you think about the faux wood paneling in your aunt’s living room, you can’t deny the impact of retro design. If you are feeling a bit nostalgic, we have some fun, contemporary ways to bring touches of the 60s and70s into your home. But throw out your notion of avocado appliances and wall to wall carpeting the color of a rusted old Chevy. Just as maxi dresses haven taken on a 21st century persona, modular design and shag rugs are a now great way to merge mid-century design, 70s flair and contemporary functionality in your home.

In the kitchen:
By pairing modern appliances with cool vintage furniture, you’ll take the edge off of a strictly modern kitchen. Keep your work space contemporary but play around with your eating area and accents. Check out the molded plastic chair from Herman Miller in a fun color like aqua and red. These chairs were designed in the 1940s and have been a timeless accent throughout the decades. Pair them with an Eames round table in white to bring fresh color and design that will balance out your contemporary stainless steel appliances. Then use simple, bold wall art in yellows, browns, greens or pinks to add more character around the eating area.

Herman Miller Eames DAR Molded Plastic Armchair with Wire Base - $349.00
 In the living room:
Assuming the wood paneling and wall-to-wall shag were torn out years ago, there are still ways to bring retro style back into your living space. Stick with an understated wall color like khaki or grey and let your furniture make the statement. Invest in a simple, modular couch like the Jane Sofa from Gus Modern. With clean lines and superior comfort, you can design your room around this focus point. Then bring in a set of pod-like side chairs with rounded edges to complement the structured sofa. The Knoll Tulip Chair is a great choice for top of the line timeless styles. Complete the room with vintage lighting, a modular veneer coffee table, and accents like Aalto vases by iittala or pillows from Inhabit or Thomas Paul that will blend your contemporary and vintage themes.

In the bedroom:
For a proper retro bedroom, you’ll need to start by looking at low-lying, structural platform beds. Sticking with the vintage style furniture will give continuity to your design. You can then bring the look into the 21st century with sleek, modern bedding and a contemporary wall color. A simple low profile dresser and nightstand can round out your bedroom set. While 70s design typically steered towards darker wood finishes, opt for a lighter veneer to update the look a bit. Then, for added style, choose a modest shag rug in a bright accent color that will bring the room’s theme together but won’t scream Three’s Company or The Jeffersons with your other contemporary decor. For accents, skip the lava lamp and beads and choose contemporized versions of vintage lamps and pendant lights to warm up the room with funky flair.

Modloft Worth Bed in Wenge and White with matching Nightstands - $1500.00
  • Includes bed and two matching nightstands
  • Wenge and White finish
  • Constructed of select solid hardwoods
  • Upholstered leatherette headboard
  • Queen Dimensions: 26" H x 124" W x 93" D
  • King Dimensions: 26" H x 140" W x 93" D
  • Manufacturer provides 1 year warranty
And voila! With a few iconic pieces of furniture and unique accents you can give your home a retro feel that will bridge the gap from vintage to modern without looking drab and outdated.

Happy Designing!

How to Relax After a Long Day at Work

After a long day at work, you're bound to get that tense and worn out feeling. Instead of waiting for that glimmer of hope we call a vacation, make sure you take a little “me” time out of your day to avoid getting frazzled and snappy. Making small adjustments like taking a walk or grabbing your favorite bottle of wine from your wine refrigerator coupled with a piece of stemware from your wine glass rack, might just be the ticket you need to decompress.

Before you reach your breaking point here are some tips to help you collect yourself and return refreshed to face the world again.

1. Environment – Make sure you have a relaxing place already picked out and make sure that it's already set up to be your own personal sanctuary...even if you only have 10 minutes to spare. Make sure the lighting isn’t harsh and maybe light your favorite scented candle. Small details like soft music playing in the background will make all the difference.

2. Refreshments – Even though we want to indulge in our favorites you don’t want to kick yourself the next day for breaking a diet. Instead take your go-to-goodies in moderation so that those little moments seem all that much more enjoyable! Perhaps adding some healthier, lighter fare will make you feel energized and refreshed.

3. Activity – Maybe you want a nice warm bubble bath, to sit back with a book, or a comfortable movie night. Whichever option you choose, make sure you have the specifics on hand so you’re not making a mad dash to the store for the essentials. Organizing yourself with a wine rack or movie rack will cut the stress, not to mention the clutter.

       Here’s a great example:

Avanti 18- Bottle Dual Zone Thermolectric Wine Cooler - $219.89
  • Holds 18 wine bottles
  • Dual zone wine chiller
  • Soft touch controls with electronic display and panel lock feature
  • Full range thermostat for ideal temperature controlled conditions
  • Reversible thermopane glass door with integrated handle
  • Soft interior lighting with ON/OFF switch
  • Slide-out chrome shelves
  • Auto defrost
  • Unique state-of-the-art Thermoelectric technology
  • Dimensions: 26" H x 13.75" W x 19.5" D
  • Power: 110V / 60Hz
       4. RELAX – Make sure everyone knows that you're taking a little break and that all of their questions are answered.  Communicating this is key so that people know not to disturb you.

What are the Basic Tools for Home Repairs?

Hand Tools: 101

While it’s a huge bummer when things break, it’s even worse when you have to pay someone else to fix that problem. Especially when you think you could have fixed on your own, if only you had the right tools. But what are the right tools, and how do you use them?

Below is a crash course on hand tools. Hand tools are different from power tools in that they typically have no more than one or two moving parts, if any at all. Hand tools also do not require a power source, like an electric or gasoline generator, for operation, so no need to run out to the store for your generator accessories. These things use good old fashioned elbow grease, and you probably have a few of them hanging out in your garage or in a junk drawer.

Screw and Nutdrivers:
  1. Philips: these screwdrivers featured a tip with four points and are used on Philips head screws.
  2. Slotted: also known as “flathead” screwdrivers, these are used on slotted screws, and can also be used on Philips screws.

Hammers: One of the oldest tools in history, there are many different variations and can all be classified as a Hammer with the following names:
  1. Claw
  2. Ball Peen
  3. Double Face
  4. Framing
  5. Sledge
  6. Mallets
  7. Dead Blow
  8. Hatchets
$28.19 Copper Tools Plumb Premium Ripping Claw Hammers22 oz. Pro Series Fiberglass Rip Claw Hammer
  • High-luster, full-polished finish
  • Octagon-shaped neck
  • Solid fiberglass core covered with a molded nylon jacket to resist breakage due to overstrike
  • Contoured handle for increased comfort and reduced fatigue
  • Enlarged handle base for butting material
  • New grip material reduces handle slickness
  • Factory balanced for maximum striking power
  • Permabond® construction between head and handle
Specifications:
  • Head Weight: 22 oz
  • Overall : 15 in
  • Head Material: Forged Steel
  • Finish: Polish
  • Handle Material: Fiberglass
  • Type: Ripping Claw Hammer
  • Quantity: 4 per pack
  • 1.90 lb
Ratchet: is a tool that allows movement in one direction

Wrenches: Can all be described as the following:

Box-end Wrench: Both ends of these single-piece wrenches have enclosed openings that grip the faces of bolts or nuts off and made to accommodate a specific size nut.

Open-end Wrench: Both ends of these wrenches have U-shaped openings that grip opposite faces of a nut or bolt.

Combination Wrench: Features one open end and one box end on either side.

12-Point: These wrenches provide access to nuts and bolts more easily, but provide less torque. Good to have if there is limited working space.

6-Point: These wrenches provide more torque than 12-point wrenches, but lack the ease of fastening onto the nut or bolt face.

Adjustable: Also known as a “crescent” wrench, it features a moveable jaw to accommodate different size nuts or bolts.

Socket Wrench: uses separate, removable sockets to fit different sizes of nuts and bolts

How to Create a Movie Room or Home Theater!

Whether you enjoy spending time with the family by watching new releases or your kids have gone off to college and you have some free time to delve into some of your favorite classic flicks, a well constructed home theater will make movie time that much better! Creating and customizing a home theater or movie room in your house should be a fun process, whether you are simply looking to elaborate a bit on your current set up or challenge the local cinema and start charging general admission at your front door. Here are some basics to consider:

Location:
Even if you do not plan on your home theater seating accommodating the whole neighborhood, there will more than likely be quite a bit of audible noise coming from the movie room. Surely sensory overload is not the best remedy for sleeping or studying, so avoid setting up your theater near the bedroom or home office. Typically a basement is ideal, or at least a room far away from where you need quiet time.

Paint:
Even fans of the Rolling Stones don’t want to “paint it black” throughout the house, however if you are looking to have the most ideal viewing experience you are going to want to have your movie room painted a dark color. Black, dark purple, or a dark blue will be just fine.

Seating:
This is one of the more important aspects of the home theater room and is what differentiates a home theater from your average living room where “dads chair” is the only comfortable option. Figure out how much room you have and do your best to fill it up with seats so that you can enjoy a viewing session with as many friends and family members as possible. Straight home theater seating is a great option to replicate the type of atmosphere you would get at a major Cineplex. For those of you looking to really kick back and get comfy, reclining home theater seating is another great option!

Wildon Home St Helena Three Seat Theater in Black - $1305.00
  • St. Helena Two Seat Theater
  • Contemporary style
  • Sleek track arm with chrome cup holders built in
  • Black leather match upholstery
  • Dimensions: 41" H x 101" W x 40.5" D

Electronics:
After you have found the perfect area, you have painted over the day glow that once plagued the basement, and you’re reclining your seat with soda in hand, however feeling like something is still missing? Now you need the most important aspect of your new favorite room, the electronics! Don’t hold back here, go all out and get the biggest tv and most expensive sound system in your price range.

So there you have it, some of the basic things to keep in mind while creating your new home theater. Keep in mind you can always add on with great movie room accessories from your friends at www.hometheaterseatingonline.com part of CSN Stores!

Where to Find Litter Box Furniture and Enclosures

You love your cat dearly, but we bet you don’t love the look of his or her litter box sitting in your bathroom, laundry room, or even your living room! That hard plastic crate can certainly stick out like a sore thumb. Well, we here at CSN have the perfect solution. If you’ve never heard of litter box furniture or enclosures, you’re missing out on a great opportunity to spruce up any room in your home!

If you currently keep your litter box in a common area, like a bathroom or entryway, the design of the litter box enclosure will be very important. You don’t want it to stand out, but rather blend effortlessly into the rest of the décor. Check out this white litter box furniture by Designer Catbox that doubles as a small side table or cat rest!

Designer Catbox in White - $139.95
  • White finish
  • Outer hole that can be set up on right or left, so that you can keep it hidden from guests
  • Metal hook to hold a litter scoop
  • Top opens for easy cleaning
  • Hydraulic safety hinge
  • Durable, glossy, non-toxic, lead-free paint - made to last
  • High quality wood
  • Stylish, elegant wainscoting
  • Interior Panel: Prevent litter from being kicked outside the box with the staggered interior hole. The interior panel also prevents dogs and children from getting into the litter pan
  • Good For Children: The Designer Catbox keeps out curious babies and helps to provide sanitary conditions for your little explorers
  • Good for Dogs: The size of the Designer Catbox keeps out dogs looking for "treats" or chasing after the cats

On the other hand, if you’d like to add a touch of whimsy to your decor, or if you keep the litter box in a low-traffic area, consider drawing attention to the enclosure! Show off your cat’s Malibu surf house or Spanish villa with these humorous enclosures by Chateau Looey.

The great thing about these litter box enclosures is that they incorporate the litter tray you’re already using. If you’ve invested in an expensive automatic litter box, have no fear! Simply find an enclosure with dimensions large enough to fit the tray and you’ll be all set (dimensions are noted for every enclosure listed on our site).

Never worry again about that unsightly litter box drawing attention away from your home design. With litter box furniture, you can transform those hard plastic trays into accent pieces that will actually impress guests! (Plus, we bet your cat would love a new Spanish villa – who wouldn’t?)

How To Organize Your Work Space

$35 million dollars! Sounds like a lot of money, right?  Well, that’s approximately how much money a 1,000-person company could lose if every employee spent one hour surfing the web during work hours.  Now, that was a hypothetical scenario – here are some real statistics.  64% of employees admitted to using the internet in a non-work-related capacity.  60% of online purchases are made during regular work hours.  Oh, and 65% of YouTube viewers watch between 9 AM and 5 PM during the work week.  That’s a lot of hours and dollars in lost productivity! {Sources – Staff Monitoring Solutions, Good Feed}

Now, stop and think about how much time you spend fussing around on the computer during work hours.  These stats sound pretty scary, right?  Now, look at your work space.  How organized are you?  While there’s no direct correlation between workplace productivity and work space organization, the more neat and clean your desk space is, the easier it’s going to be for you to get your work done.  To help get you started, here are a few things that you can do to help optimize your work space for maximum productivity.

De-Clutter
Clutter is the enemy.  De-cluttering your work space should be your top priority.  Recycle, shred and purge all of those old documents, file folders, Post-Its that you don’t need any more.  If you haven’t looked at them in the past 3 months, you aren’t going to look at them again.  Pick a couple of pens, pencils and highlighters that you use most often and get rid of the rest. Once you’ve purged, it’s time to survey the battle field.  Stackable paper trays are great for keeping essential papers and files easily accessible, yet organized.  Some desk accessories and organizers have built in pen/pencil holders, paper clip holders, note pads, etc.  Anything you don’t need on a daily basis, file away.  It might be a good idea to invest in some sturdy filing cabinets.  If you have any sensitive documents, a locking filing cabinet would be ideal.  Don’t just throw things into a wooden filing cabinet – make sure you establish some kind of a filing system.  You want to be able to find what you’re looking for easily and quickly.

Zach Nexus Mobile Phone Holder - $44.54
  • Designed in Germany
  • High quality stainless steel
  • Overall dimensions: 2.5" H x 3.5" W x 3.5" D

Minimize Distractions
Now that your desk is organized and devoid of all clutter, it’s time to think about what distractions you face on a day to day basis.  Consider keeping your cell phone or PDA in your desk drawer to minimize distractions.  If this isn’t possible, a desktop cell phone/PDA holder might be a good investment.  If you have to keep your mobile device on your desktop, make sure that you keep it out of your line of site, otherwise you’ll find yourself distracted by the blinking light of an unread text message or email.  If your company doesn’t restrict your internet usage, try and limit your non-work internet usage to your lunch break.  Think about where your desk is located and who else can see your screen.  Knowing that your co-workers and/or boss can walk by at any moment and see what you’re doing might be enough of a deterrent for you to stay off of certain websites.

Once your desk space is de-cluttered and distraction-free, it’s time to add a little flair.  Modern picture frames, calendars, artwork – something that exudes personality and a sense of who you are.  Remember, boring is not synonymous with productive!

Blomus Muro Notepaper Roll Holder - $23.75
  • Stainless steel
  • Ideal for table or wall mounting
  • Overall Dimensions: 4"W x 10"D

How to Build an Outdoor Bar Stool

As those warm summer months approach we fanaticize having family and friends over for barbeques, birthday parties, and other get togethers that help with relaxation and lasting memories. As we prepare for this anticipated time of year we start our own check list:

New Drink Set? Check.
Grill? Check.
Pool? Check.
Bar stools? ... Add that to the ‘To Do’ list!

With all these guest coming over they need a place to sit! Instead of running to the store and getting some chairs that you are less than thrilled to have instead a great statement piece to unwind in is a must have. The proper outdoor seats will create that perfect ambiance for your gatherings.

The important first step is to consider your style that fits best with your personal design. Maybe you’re leaning towards something fun like bamboo bar stools or looking for sleek black modern bar stools. Once you’ve picked your perfect bar stool (which is the fun part!) you’re on your way.

Maybe a natural Kingsley-Bate Mandalay 27" Outdoor Bar Chair caught your eye! Let’s break down those confusing instruction manuals to 7 easy steps to making relaxation that much closer.

Kingsley Bate Mandalay 27" Outdoor Bar Chair - $378.00
  • Constructed of solid teak
  • Cushions (CUS15) available and sold separately
  • Seat Height: 27"
  • Overall Dimensions: 47" H x 19" W x 23" D
  • Suited for Residential use only

Tools you will need:
  1. Instruction Manual
  2. Bar Stool parts and hardware
  3. Screw Driver
  4. Rubber Mallet

The instructions will help you and should be clear and concise. However if they are not, here are 7 easy steps to follow that work for most styles of bar stools:

  1.  Begin to build your bar stool by putting together the back of the chair. Find the End Frame with holes facing up to you. Now find the Back Slats, the back rest portion of your seat, and gently rock them into place until snugly fit. Take each slat and insert it into the top rail.
  2. Insert the base rails, also called 'stretchers', into the slats by lining up the holes and pushing the rail onto the frame. This will be 2 rails for the seat then 2 rails for the foot rest support. You must line up the holes and insert into all holes at once.
  3. Carefully fit the other End Frame onto the base rails you just inserted into the opposite End Frame. Use a rubber mallet to amek sure your bar stool won't wobble.
  4. Fit the Back Taop Rail onto the Back Slats and the End Frame.
  5. Put the seat into place and tighten with a screw driver. Make sure they are tight so they won't budge.
  6. Hammer the dowels into the pre-drilled holes of the assembly.
  7. Viola! Now sit back and relax so you can enjoy your back yard oasis.

Where to find a Sleeper Sofa

When you hear the words “sleeper sofa,” do you imagine a big, overstuffed couch taking up space in your living room? The kind you have to wrestle with every time friends or family visit for the weekend? Well, we’re here to let you know that the sleeper sofa has come a long way from their oversized ancestors, and have evolved into sleek, streamlined sleepers that compliment any décor. So, without further ado, we present to you the evolution of the sleeper sofa:

We’ll start with the classic pull-out sofa, the closest relative of the original sleeper. Although these couches are larger than the more contemporary styles, many feature a full queen-sized mattress when converted (something your visitors will certainly enjoy!). If you have a large, traditional living room, this is a great choice.

Tips for Decorating Your Outdoor Patio

Summer is on its way, and you know what that means? (Hint: It doesn’t mean dusting off the same old wicker furniture and placing it on your back deck in roughly the same configuration as last year.) It means you’re free to reinvent your outdoor patio as a mini vacation resort, just a few steps beyond your back door! Here are a few tips to help you transform your patio from simple to stunning:

Let’s rebuild your outdoor space from the ground up, beginning with outdoor rugs. Add a splash of color to a wooden deck or stone patio with colorful, weather-resistant area rugs that set the tone for your style and color palette. Do you want your patio to be modern and contemporary? Or perhaps a rustic retreat is more appropriate? In either case, you don’t want to stray too far from the design of your home. If you or your guests are exiting a bright, modern kitchen onto a patio that looks like it came straight from the set of George of the Jungle, it’s going to be jarring.

Homespice Decor - Tuscany - Out-Durable Tuscany Rectangular Braided Rectangular Rug - (Prices vary depending on size)
  • Made in India with Dupont olefin
  • Boasts extreme versatility as well as ensured durability
  • Suitable for kitchen, porch, patio, pet area, childrens room and bathroom use
  • Primarily olive and red with cream accents
  • Available in the following sizes: 2' x 3', 2'3" x 4', 3' x 5', 4' x 6', 5' x 8', 6' x 9', 8' x 10', Runner 2'6" x 6', Runner 2'6" x 9'
(Quick Tip: Don’t forget to purchase an outdoor rug pad to make sure your new rug stays put!)

Now that we’ve got the rugs down, let’s think about decoration. If your deck or patio is small, you’re going to need every element to count. Rather than investing in an oversized space heater for cool summer nights, check out these heater lamps! They can warm a twelve-foot radius and look great sitting inconspicuously on a patio table.

Uniflame - New Orleans Electric Table Top Patio Heater - $139.99
  • Weather resistant hardware with a curved stem and antique mahogany color
  • Heats up to a 12 foot circle
  • 1,200 watt Halogen heating bulb uses a standard 120V grounded outlet
  • Comes with an eight foot cord and a safety tilt switch
  • CSA certified
If you’re used to looking out your back window and seeing pool toys or gardening tools strewn all over the yard, you may want to invest in storage seating. This cedar bench with a cushion top can seat guests and discreetly hide all of your summer necessities at the same time.
Cedar Creek - Cedar Large Storage Bench with Cushion Top - $209.99
  • Clear Cedar
  • Outdoor storage
  • Non detachable cushion seat
  • Made in the USA
  • Overall Dimensions: 18.5" H x 52" W x 19.25" D
And last but not least, let’s think about lighting. For lazy summer nights spent on the patio, consider everything from hanging rope lights to traditional candle-lit lanterns. However, our favorite affordable and space-efficient solution is umbrella lights. If you already have an umbrella open during the day to provide shade, with the flick of a switch you can turn that same umbrella into a soft, glowing lamp after the sun goes down! These lights can be installed beneath any 9’ umbrella and are completely weather resistant.

Dayva Harbor Lights Patio Umbrella Lighting - $54.99
  • Weather resistant White wire
  • One year Manufacturer Warranty
  • Indoor/Outdoor
  • UL Listed

We hope we’ve given you some great ideas to begin reinventing your outdoor patio this summer. For all of these products and more, visit CSN Stores!

Where to Find Microwaveable Cookware

The microwave oven has taken our kitchens by storm since its initial introduction to the personal appliance market in 1967. It no longer serves merely to heat up TV-Dinners or pre-cooked, packaged noodles, however. It is also used to prepare certain parts of meals separately, boil water for tea or other uses, defrost frozen goods, re-heat left-over meals, and much, much more.

An important thing to remember when using your microwave, though, is that the container you are using needs to be microwavable. Should you accidentally heat yesterday’s dinner in a non-microwavable container, you might well find yourself with a malfunctioning or broken microwave or, even worse, having to digest a fair bit of plastic along with your spaghetti. Don’t fret, though, situations like these are easily prevented! If you’d like to avoid feasting on a cookware-pasta combination, you should check out the vast selection of microwave cookware from www.cookware.com.

Whether you’re in need of standard microwave cookware in several different sizes, or more specialized items, such as egg boilers, s’mores makers, or bacon trays, you are sure to find it all here! These containers and plates are all safe to use in your microwave, and they all ensure that your pasta dinner and your cookware remain two separate entities!

Camerons Mak'n Bacon - $11.05
  • Cool grip handle
  • Fits in all microwave ovens
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Folds for compact storage
  • Pan collects fat drippings for easy disposal
We also have a variety of other fun cookware items like fondue sets and egg poachers!

Happy Microwaving!

How to Decorate Your Bedroom

Most people do not put enough importance on their bedrooms as living spaces. As a room where we spend at least one third of our days, it is important to make sure your bedroom meets your needs and lifestyle. Does your bedroom reflect your personality? Do you feel rested and comfortable in the room when you wake up? Follow these tips to make sure your bedroom is a room you love to be in!

Find furniture you love: Still using beat up hand-me-downs or curb-side finds? With so many reasonably priced, well made bedroom sets available today, now is the time to invest in furniture that will bring the room together and stand the test of time. Whether you’re a bit more traditional and like the look of a rich, mahogany sleigh bed or want to take a more minimalist approach with a wooden platform bed and clean, modern accents, choosing the right furniture for your lifestyle will make a big difference in your room.

(See site for specifications)

Good Lighting: Lighting is a functional part of any room, but you can also use it as a way to complement and reflect your style. Using a prominent light fixture on the ceiling can make quite a statement. Whether you find a great vintage chandelier or contemporary pendant lighting, find lights that create the look you want.

Storage space: Reevaluate your possessions and make sure that everything in your room serves a purpose. No more laundry baskets of clean clothes in the corner or piles of papers on the dresser. Invest in a large enough chest or armoire to fit your belongings. And if you have a desk in your room, make sure it is a functional work space, organized and free from clutter.

Style & Décor: Décor is where you’re able to bring everything together to complete your look. Start with a wall color that makes you feel rested and at ease. Decorate the walls with framed prints, pictures of family and loved ones, or art work. Don’t forget about table top spaces too—candles, trinkets, flowers and pictures can all have their place as well. Lastly, invest in good bedding. Make sure your sheets and comforter are not only luxurious but also coordinate nicely with the look you want to create.

Don’t forget about the kids!
Lea - Deer Run Captains Bedroom Set - $1050.00
  • Brown Cherry finish
  • Crafted of hardwood solids, cherry veneers and wood products
  • Antiqued pewter hardword
Just as the master bedroom needs to reflect your style and help you rejuvenate, make sure your child’s room reflects their personality too. And since kids are constantly changing and growing, make sure their room grows with them and is always a space they enjoy spending time in by finding fun stylish kids bedding sets that they will surely show off to their friends!

-       Make sure to choose your kids bedroom sets so they are simple enough to transition as they grow and are also durable enough to last through adolescence. Solid wood bedroom sets or sturdy metal are great options.

-       Don’t be afraid to paint the walls…and let them choose the color! Find cute wall art, or better yet, frame their own artwork to add a personal touch to freshly painted walls.

-       Make sure there is lots of storage. Create spaces for their clothes, books and toys to ensure everything has its own spot. Also, for older kids, make sure you invest in a desk where they can do homework, crafts and games. With designated places for everything, it will make it easier for you both to keep things organized and make the room more enjoyable overall!

How to Decorate for Easter

Easter is a great reason to get the whole family together at the dinner table! But before you start carving the ham, you need to decorate your dining room table! Combine these festive tips to create the perfect Easter table setting:

1. Your table cloth sets the stage for any dinner party. For Easter, choose a pastel colored table cloth to celebrate spring! If you’re planning to get creative with your table decorations then a solid color works best- otherwise go for a fun, floral print!

2. Get creative with your place settings! Try decorating Easter eggs (hard-boiled or chocolate) with each guest’s name. If you’re feeling ambitious, head to a craft store and pick up some small birds nests to hold the Easter egg place settings!

3. Fill glass wine & champagne glasses with jellybeans! A glass container works best so that the candies will really stand out on your table. Place them sporadically throughout the table, or at each place setting.

  • Introduced in 2000
  • Part of the Tuscany Classics Crystal Collection
  • Cleaning and Care: Dishwasher Safe
  • Makes a Great Gift
       4. A floral centerpiece is another fun way to add color to your table. Lilies are a classic Easter favorite but feel free to get creative! Tulips, daisies and daffodils will also brighten up your table, or you can add jellybeans to the bottom of a vase.

5. Your casual dinnerware should be the final step when decorating your Easter table. If your table doesn’t feel festive enough, 5 piece dinnerware set is an easy solution! Otherwise, stick to classic, solid china for an elegant look.
Pfaltzgraff Aurora Dinnerware Collection - $14.99 - $24.99
  • Microwave, dishwasher, and conventional oven safe
  • Material: Made of chip resistant stoneware

6. With these simple decorating tips you’re ready for the day- just be sure to stock up on chocolate bunnies for the whole family!

Happy Easter!
